Tertulia – Algorithms to Live By Part 2
February 21, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
What is a Tertulia?
The word tertulia [terˈtulja] originated in Spain during the reign of King Philip IV. In those times it was popular to read and discuss the writings of Quinto Septimio Florente Tertuliano. From there a tertulia was defined as an informal social gathering with literary overtones, similar to French Salons. Of course, some say the readings were simply an excuse to gather, drink, eat, and dance – but we don’t see anything wrong with that.
KYO’s Tertulia is a book club to discuss architecture, technology, and entrepreneurship with curiosity and humor.
What book are we reading?
For the fourth book in our Tertulia series, we will be reading Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions.
What should we do, or leave undone, in a day or a lifetime? How much messiness should we accept? What balance of the new and familiar is the most fulfilling? These may seem like uniquely human quandaries, but they are not.
In Algorithms to Live By we will learn how algorithms developed for computers also untangle very human questions.
Who will be attending?
The KYO Team will be guiding the discussion and we have invited clients and colleagues of the architectural community, as well as family and friends. If literary discussions, or drinking wine socially, interests you – please join us.
How do I participate?
For Part 2 of the discussion please read the entire book. RSVP below, so that we save you a seat. Meet us at the Rogue Wine Bar on Thursday, February 8 at 6 PM. Bring yourself and an open mind. We will have some discussion points to get the ball rolling but conversations are quickly shaped by the participants.
We hope to see you there!
